Low 7,700.51, which held Thursday's 7,616.78 floor. The August 13 record at 7,816.70 remains unrepaired. The Nasdaq Composite closed 27,190.86 (+1.2 percent). MarketWatch's session high at 27,353.68 sits above the September 22 close record at 27,244.28. The cash close is still short of that September 22 print. The Dow closed 51,176.96 (+0.5 percent). The Russell 2000 closed 2,832.90 (+0.9 percent). Ten of 11 S&P sectors finished higher, led by consumer discretionary and technology (NAMPA). For the week the S&P is down 0.3 percent, the Dow 1.3 percent, and Nasdaq is up 0.5 percent.

Story of the Day: Payrolls Print 29,000, Tesla Delivers
September nonfarm payrolls increased by 29,000 after a downwardly revised 133,000 in August (BLS via Reuters). Economists polled by Reuters had forecast about 90,000. July and August were revised down by a combined 60,000, with July now a 10,000 loss. The unemployment rate rose to 4.2 percent from 4.1 percent. Private payrolls rose 46,000. Average hourly earnings rose 0.1 percent on the month and 3.0 percent year over year, versus this morning's 0.3 / 3.1 percent consensus. October hike odds, about 25 percent this morning, fell into the high teens to low 20s on CME FedWatch, from about 64 percent a week earlier. Yields tumbled on the print, then retraced as oil recovered. That is this morning's soft-print path on equities, and a miss on gold's route through 4,200.
Tesla closed 374.16 dollars, up 5.66 percent (KlickAnalytics), after third-quarter deliveries of 486,532 versus a 461,974 consensus (Electrek). Nvidia closed about 233.95 dollars, up 1.4 percent (Barron's). ON Semiconductor rose about 6 percent on a 5.7 billion dollar cash deal for Synaptics, whose shares rallied about 14 percent. Nike slumped about 3.5 percent into the cash close, cashing Thursday's after-hours miss (Barron's). West Texas Intermediate last printed about 91.52 dollars (FT, range 88.06 to 93.51), a recovery from the session low after this morning's about 91.76. Tuesday's 94.74 high remains the scare marker. Spot gold last printed about 4,143 dollars (TradingView 4,143.070; GoldPrice.com 4,142.11), a fade from this morning's 4,186, still below 4,200, on a second weekly loss of more than 2 percent.
