As flagged in Tuesday morning's analysis, overnight E-mini December futures sat near 7,837 against Monday's 7,764.70, and West Texas Intermediate October futures were near 97 dollars on expiry day. Tuesday's cash tape went mixed: the S&P 500 closed 7,764.27, essentially unchanged, while the Nasdaq printed a second record. Overnight, crude kept sliding. West Texas Intermediate November futures are near 89.40 dollars. Overnight E-mini December futures are near 7,840. Bitcoin is near 86,260 dollars. Xi Jinping is in the United States for Thursday's White House talks. Flash PMIs print today. Japan reopens Thursday. US cash opens 13:30 UTC. This is the morning scorecard, not an instruction.
The Setup: Overnight ES Near 7,840
The S&P 500's last cash print remains Tuesday's 7,764.27, down 0.43 points or 0.01 percent (Economic Times, Reuters). Saxo had 7,764.64. That is a hold of Monday's 7,764.70 close, not a new high. The Nasdaq Composite closed 27,243.24, up 0.45 percent, a second consecutive record (Economic Times; DailyForex 27,244.28). The Nasdaq-100 closed 30,732.40, up 0.82 percent, its first record since June (Saxo). The Dow closed 51,863.89, down 0.36 percent. US cash has not opened. Figures below are Tuesday close plus overnight futures. E-mini S&P 500 December futures are near 7,840 as of about 08:00 UTC, labeled overnight futures (MarketWatch 7,837.75, up 0.08 percent from a 7,831.75 settlement; ESZ26 7,840.00; Investing.com 7,839.00 to 7,841.50). Overnight range 7,827.25 to 7,843.25. Nasdaq-100 futures are little changed. Dow futures are slightly higher. The 10-year last printed about 4.97 percent Tuesday (Reuters).
Tuesday's cash high never repaired Monday's 7,779.22. December futures still trade at a premium to cash; the 7,843 print is the contract, not a new cash high. The August 13 record at 7,816.70 remains the cash marker. Traders watching 7,764.27 as the cash reference. Bullish trigger: a hold through 7,764.27 toward 7,779.22, then 7,816.70. Bearish trigger: a slide through Monday's 7,691.19 low, then Friday's 7,650.50.
- S&P Tuesday close 7,764.27 (flat); overnight ES futures ~7,840
- Nasdaq closed 27,243.24, a second record; Nasdaq-100 30,732.40; Dow closed 51,863.89 (-0.4%)
- ES range 7,827.25-7,843.25; 10-year Tuesday ~4.97%
- Figures above are Tuesday close plus overnight futures; cash opens 13:30 UTC
Story of the Day: Oil's Sixth Down Session
West Texas Intermediate November futures are near 89.40 dollars (MarketWatch 89.36 at 01:46 EDT, down 1.28 percent; WSJ 89.28, down 1.37 percent), a further fade from Tuesday's November settlement at 90.52 and from Tuesday's expired October close at 94.59. Overnight range 88.71 to 90.38. Brent is near 98.41 dollars (WSJ). Reuters counted five down days through Tuesday; Saxo called this the sixth. That is the longest losing streak since August 2025.
The fade is supply and diplomacy, not a demand print. Reuters said Iran told it the Strait of Hormuz could reopen within seven days if Washington eases military pressure. Saudi Arabia is restarting the East-West pipeline toward Yanbu. Trump said US officials had a "very good" meeting with Iranian envoys in New York. Traders watching 89.40 as the live November reference. A reclaim of Tuesday's 90.52 settlement, then the expired October 94.59, would repair the premium. A hold through today's 88.71 low would extend the fade into Trump-Xi.
- WTI November ~$89.40 after Tuesday's Nov settlement $90.52; range $88.71-$90.38
- October expired Tuesday at $94.59; Brent ~$98.41; sixth down session
- Hormuz "seven-day" offer and the Saudi East-West restart are the supply headlines
- Key reference: Nov $90.52 and the expired Oct $94.59; Friday's $100.30 still unrepaired
Chips Bid, Banks Off: Muse Aftershock
Tuesday's tape split. Financials were the weakest S&P sector, down about 2 percent, the most since March (Saxo, Reuters). Charles Schwab slid about 5.5 to 6 percent. Expedia dropped about 4 percent. The read is Meta's Muse assistant hitting distribution fees at brokers and travel platforms. Shopify jumped about 7 percent after a Muse partnership (CNBC-TV18). Chips absorbed it: the Philadelphia semiconductor index rose for a sixth session, SanDisk surged about 7.2 percent, and Micron added about 4 percent. Catch up: week-ahead docket. Flash PMIs print today. Cintas, Paychex and General Mills report this morning. Costco reports Thursday after the close.
- Nasdaq second record; Nasdaq-100 first record since June at 30,732.40
- Financials ~-2%; Schwab ~-6%; Shopify ~+7% on a Muse tie-up
- SanDisk ~+7.2%; Micron ~+4%; SOX sixth up session
- Today: flash PMIs, Cintas, Paychex, General Mills; Thursday: Trump-Xi, Costco
Gold Near $4,335; Bitcoin Holds $86,260
Spot gold is near 4,335 dollars (RoboForex 4,331; Investing.com 4,336.42, down 0.51 percent; MarketWatch GC00 4,355.30 at 04:57 EDT, down 0.48 percent from a 4,376.40 settlement). That is a fade from Tuesday's spot close near 4,364 and from Monday's about 4,341. Traders watching 4,335 then Tuesday's 4,364. A slide through Investing.com's 4,317 area would extend last week's fade.
Bitcoin is near 86,260 dollars (TradingView 86,262, up 0.05 percent), a hold above Tuesday morning's about 85,350 and well above Monday's 82,000 bullish trigger. The week's high sat near 87,381. Saxo had about 86,711 around 06:00 CET. Ether is near 2,745 dollars (CoinMarketCap 2,748.16; Twelve Data 2,746.36 at 08:33 UTC). BTC bullish trigger: a hold of 86,260 dollars, then 87,381. Bearish trigger: a slip through 82,000, then 80,000.
- Gold ~$4,335; RoboForex $4,331; Investing.com $4,336.42; GC00 $4,355.30
- Fade from Tuesday spot ~$4,364; GC settlement $4,376.40
- Bitcoin ~$86,260; hold above $85,350 and $82,000; week high ~$87,381
- Ether ~$2,745 from Tuesday ~$2,744-$2,753
What's Next: Flash PMIs, Then Trump-Xi
Euro-area, UK and US flash PMIs print today. Cintas, Paychex and General Mills report before the US cash open. Claims, new home sales and the SNB print Thursday with Costco after the close. US cash opens at 13:30 UTC. Docket: calendar.
Three scenarios frame the session, not a recommendation. In a contained-oil path, WTI holds the fade through 89.40 without reclaiming 90.52 and ES leans on Tuesday's 7,764.27 into the PMIs. In a diplomacy path, a constructive Xi arrival or Hormuz-flow headline would keep crude bidless and chips bid into Thursday. In a scare path, a rare-earth or Iran headline would reclaim 94.59 and test Monday's 7,691.19 low. Bullish trigger: a hold through 7,764.27 toward 7,779.22, then the 7,816.70 record. Bearish trigger: a slide through Monday's 7,691.19 low, then Friday's 7,650.50.
- Today: flash PMIs; Cintas, Paychex, General Mills; 13:30 UTC: US cash open
- Thursday: Trump-Xi, SNB, claims, new home sales, Costco after the close
- S&P bullish trigger: hold through 7,764.27 toward 7,779.22; bearish: a slide through 7,691.19
- Oil key reference: WTI Nov $89.40; Tuesday settlement $90.52; expired Oct $94.59
