Weekly Scorecard: A Record Close, Then a Friday Repair
Tuesday printed the S&P cash record at 7,818.93 after a session high at 7,844.52, covered in Tuesday's evening review. Thursday's OpenAI print cut the Nasdaq 1.25 percent. Friday repaired most of that. At Friday's cash close the S&P 500 stood at 7,811.54, up 0.6 percent on the day and up 1.2 percent on the week from 7,722.72 (Associated Press, FRED, YCharts). Friday range 7,779.34 to 7,820.57. Tuesday's 7,844.52 high is still unrepaired. The Nasdaq Composite finished at 27,366.17, up 0.6 percent on the week. The Dow closed at 51,654.95, up 0.9 percent. The 10-year settled Friday at 5.24 percent after a Wednesday tag near 5.36 percent. Those equity figures are Friday closes. US cash is shut until Monday. Biggest Movers of the Week
Monday belonged to industrial software. Schneider Electric agreed to buy PTC for 205 dollars a share in cash, about 22.6 billion dollars (Reuters). PTC jumped about 34 percent. Nvidia closed Monday at a record 238.90 dollars.
Tuesday was the nuclear offtake. Google contracted 3,590 megawatts from Constellation Energy in PJM, including a 20-year purchase of 890 megawatts of incremental nuclear output from uprates at 11 reactors (Reuters). Constellation Energy closed Tuesday up 12.3 percent.
Thursday was the OpenAI print. The company told investors annualized revenue was about 50 billion dollars at the end of September, short of the 68 to 70 billion figure that had circulated in late September (Financial Times, CNBC). Nvidia fell about 3 percent. The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index dropped 3.4 percent.
Friday was the telco session, then Humana. T-Mobile closed 148.02 dollars, down 13.6 percent. AT&T closed down 11.0 percent. Verizon closed down 10.4 percent (CNBC, LA Times). Crown Castle jumped about 15.6 percent. Humana was the S&P's biggest gainer: CMS 2027 Medicare Advantage star ratings put 95 percent of members in four-star or higher plans (Reuters). Shares closed about 432 dollars, up about 12 percent.

Macro and Geopolitics: Minutes Keep a Year-End Hike, Oil Holds the 90s
Wednesday's FOMC minutes recapped the September 15-16 hike to a 3.75 to 4.00 percent funds range. Most participants assessed that another increase in the federal funds range would likely be appropriate by year end (Federal Reserve). Markets left October 27-28 hike odds near 17 to 18 percent and December near 75 to 83 percent.
Monday's ISM services print was 54.9, while the prices index jumped to 74.0. Friday's University of Michigan preliminary October sentiment printed 46.3 (Reuters). Current conditions fell to 44.7, a record low. Year-ahead inflation expectations rose to 4.7 percent.
Hormuz tanker risk and Hurricane Isaias shut-ins kept Brent in a 100 to 105 dollar range. Producers had shut about 1.46 million barrels a day, or 72 percent of US Gulf crude by Friday. West Texas Intermediate's Friday NYMEX settlement was 91.85 dollars (MarketWatch CL.1), up 0.8 percent from last Friday's 91.11. Session range 90.01 to 92.17. Thursday's 93.20 high remains the week's oil high. Brent settled Friday at 104.72 dollars. Spot gold closed Friday about 4,195 dollars (GoldPrice.com 4,194.65; Reuters 4,194.36), up about 1.3 percent from last Friday's 4,141. Gold and oil figures are Friday closes. On Friday Evernorth completed its business combination with Armada Acquisition Corp. II (PR Newswire). At close the company held about 473 million XRP.
