Story of the Day: WTI Unwinds $5 as Williams Pushes Back

The repair path on oil printed. The scare path through 110-dollar Brent did not. WTI tagged 94.74 dollars, then reversed. West Texas Intermediate last printed 89.07 dollars (FT, range 88.92 to 94.74). Barron's had 89.05, down 3.83 percent. MarketWatch had 89.35 at 3:00 p.m. EDT. Saudi Arabia restored about half the East-West pipeline, around 3.5 million barrels a day. Kpler put Middle East crude exports at 12.8 million barrels a day in September, the highest since February. Traders watching 89.07 as the live front-month reference. A reclaim of 92.60, then 94.05, would restore the Hormuz premium. A slip through today's 88.92 low would extend the unwind.

New York Fed President John Williams said there is no need for urgency after September's hike to 3.75 to 4.00 percent, and that one further adjustment may be appropriate late this year if the forecast holds. He put this year's inflation near 3.5 percent. JOLTS job openings fell to 7.079 million in August from a revised 7.335 million, below the 7.225 million consensus (Reuters, BLS). Layoffs stayed low.
